527 Madison Avenue is pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings by New York-based artist Lisa Lebofsky in the Lobby Gallery from January 12 – April 14, 2023. An opening reception will be held on January 12 from 5 – 7 PM. Located at 54th Street and Madison Avenue, the show is open to the public 9 AM – 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Produced in partnership with Franklin Bowles Gallery, this will be the twenty-fourth exhibition in 527 Madison’s ongoing program showcasing noteworthy emerging and mid-career artists, organized by Jay Grimm Art Advisory.
Lisa Lebofsky is a nomadic plein air painter, collaborating with both nature and people through her extensive travels, often to remote parts of the world. The immersive nature of her practice allows her to capture not only the stunning views, but the visceral energy of the landscapes she inhabits. While Lebofsky works on a variety of substrates, all six paintings in the exhibition are rendered on aluminum which gives them a unique reflective quality, making the water sparkle with realistic depth. Taking her creative vision into the three-dimensional world, she seeks out particularly vulnerable areas to paint––including Antarctica, Newfoundland, Greenland, and the Maldives––meeting with local residents to discuss issues of conservation and how their community is impacted by climate change.
Lebofsky holds a BFA in Metals from SUNY New Paltz and an MFA in Painting from the New York Academy of Art. Her work has been exhibited extensively throughout New York and the world, including her most recent solo exhibition at Franklin Bowles Gallery. She is the recipient of numerous awards and has participated in residency programs throughout the US and Canada.
