527 Madison Avenue is pleased to announce High Hopes, an exhibition of six paintings by JoAnne Carson in the Lobby Gallery from January 8 – April 16, 2021. Located at 54th Street and Madison Avenue, the show is open to the public 9 AM – 5 PM, Monday through Friday. We ask that all visitors wear masks and follow social distancing protocols. This will be the nineteenth exhibition in 527 Madison’s ongoing program showcasing noteworthy emerging and mid-career artists.
High Hopes represents a selection of works from the past decade of the artist’s career. The works are defined by a sense of wonder for a nature that is both abundantly alive and wild, and an environment paradoxically fragile and distorted by human intervention. JoAnne Carson is a nationally known artist living and working in Brooklyn and Vermont. She has been recognized with a Guggenheim Fellowship, awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, American Academy in Rome and National Endowment for the Arts, and Yaddo artist residencies. Her work has been exhibited at institutions including the Whitney, MCA Chicago, Albright-Knox, New Orleans Museum of Art, and ICA Philadelphia. It belongs to public collections of the Brooklyn Museum, MCA Chicago, Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, and Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, among others.
